As part of the services offered by the McDonough County Housing Authority, we also provide support to residents through our Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) rental assistance program.

Congress enacted the U.S. Housing Act of 1937, which established the Public Housing program. The goal of this program has always been to provide decent, safe, and sanitary housing for low-income families. As a result, Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) were established to develop, own, and manage low-income housing. One such agency is the Housing Authority of McDonough County (HAMC), founded in 1941, which plays a vital role in serving the community alongside the Macomb Housing Authority. The McDonough County Housing Authority, located in Macomb, IL, continues to support low-income residents in need of affordable housing.

The housing authority of McDonough County aims to provide affordable, decent, safe, and sanitary housing opportunities in an environment free from discrimination for persons with limited income in McDonough County. This includes initiatives from the Macomb housing authority, ensuring that residents have access to the resources they need through the McDonough County housing authority in Macomb, IL.

Improving the quality of life in McDonough County through access to education, employment, health, and recreational activities is a priority for the McDonough County Housing Authority. We want to create a great atmosphere for our residents, which means staff and residents working together to create a sense of community.
In a survey conducted in the Fall of 2016, residents were asked what they liked best about living at the Housing Authority of McDonough County.
One resident said, "The people!" Another resident stated that it was the "very understanding management staff". Still another resident commented that it was a "peaceful, safe environment". A fellow resident added, "I love the community."
Perhaps most poignantly, one resident said it all: "It's home".
